was she the one?

was she the one?

I saw her getting off the train when I glanced over my shoulder. I don't know why I briefly turned around but when I did she was walking behind me. Bouncy long red hair.

As I exited the station above ground, I looked for her and soon saw her to my right. When the light turned, she was first to walk and as she did a feeling rose and a thought came into my mind: "that's my future wife."

I was going that way anyway, so I walked too. The two of us, one in front of the other. She turned into a coffee shop. I carried a record player that I just bought and took it home first. Once I dropped it off, I decided to go back.

I started walking and getting worried. I said to myself that I wouldn't talk to her I'd just go and see what happened. (I think I did this to try and take the pressure off and calm down.)

When I got into the coffee shop, I overheard her talking to someone who was leaving.

I got a coffee and one of the few places to stand was right next to her. So I did.

I pretended to read the paper and drink my coffee while she stared at me.

I got really uncomfortable. I kept thinking about something to say and she kept staring at me, as if wanting to talk or waiting for me to say anything. And instead, I turned around and put my cup away and walked out as she stared at me. The minute I left I felt like I could breath again.

Years later, still single, I would think about this moment a lot.

Then I woke up this morning and realized she looked like my first crush. She looked kinda cooky and weird like I was. She looked comfortable, safe, and familiar.

I don't know if she was the one.
